A428 Update

Update from National Highways:

Hello, since the last newsletter you may have seen us out and about. We are busy preparing for construction now that the legal challenge is over. We are continuing with preparatory work including archaeology, environmental surveys and diverting utilities as we get ready for full construction.

One of the things we are working on is the diversion of a gas pipeline. This diversion is needed so we can construct a bridge over the East Coast mainline. The diversion is approximately 300m long and will ensure that Cadent can continue the safe and reliable operation of their gas network. The diversion and works started back in June are anticipated to take around 20 weeks to complete.

If you are travelling through the A1 Black Cat roundabout you may see that we are setting up our site compound in the south east area of the roundabout. This will be the satellite base for the team constructing the new Black Cat junction, and where we will securely store our construction equipment and materials. Work begins on the compound this week and will continue until the end of year.

We plan to move into full construction by the end of the year and expect the road to open in 2027.
