Weekly Policing Report

Here is our weekly summary of offences and incidents affecting your community, reported to police during the period 7th to 13th March:

B1040 Hilton – Police and recovery services were called to a bend on the B1040 near Hilton on Friday morning, 12th March, where a van had left the road and ended up on its roof in the ditch. Fortunately no-one was reported hurt in the incident. (Ref CC-12032021-0123)

And Finally – A Warning About Catalytic Converter Thefts:

Police have issued a warning about catalytic converter thefts, following 40 incidents being reported across the County in the last month:

“In less time than it takes to make a cup of tea, they’ll go onto a driveway and strip the vehicle of the precious metal and be on their way to the next victim.

“Toyotas and Hondas have predominantly been targeted, but other vehicles including Lexus, Mercedes, Mazda and Volkswagen have also been singled out.

More information and advice on how to protect your vehicle is on the police web-site at:

Ivy Cutting

Please see message from Cllr Ian Stott:

Dear Volunteer,

In March most years, the Parish Council organises an ivy-cutting party to try and keep on top of the growth that threatens to strangle our trees.  Because of lockdown we are unable to organise the normal working party, however, I would like to invite you to help by doing some ivy cutting on your own.

I am sure there are some very capable people here in the village and, if you are willing to work unsupervised, I would like to invite you to contact me.  I can then give you a few brief instructions and co-ordinate everyone so that volunteers are working suitably distanced from each other.

My plan is to make the Saturdays of 13th and 20th March ivy-cutting days.  If you can spare some time; 30 mins, an hour, or longer, please contact Ian Stott:

I look forward to hearing from you and thank you for your help.

With kind regards

Ian

Hilton Village Map

In 2016, Hilton Parish Council produced a map initially used as reference material for the environment management plan and the green spaces management policy. The Parish Council have now agreed to publish this map in a pdf format at a lower resolution (as the original file size is too large). You can view a copy of the map on the parish council website – https://hiltonparishcouncil.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/HGS-Village-Map-A2-10.pdf

High quality printed A2 copies of the map are available for £5 – if you would like one please contact the Clerk –

Annual Parish Meeting

The Annual Parish Meeting will be held on Monday 22nd March at 7:30pm via Zoom

If you run a village group and would like to  present a report to the Meeting please contact Nicola Webster, Clerk to Hilton Parish Council— or 830605.

What is the Annual Parish Meeting?

Strictly this is the Annual Meeting of the Parish. It is also known as the Annual Parish Meeting and as the Annual Parish Assembly, they are all the same thing. The Annual Parish Meeting is the meeting where the parish council report to its electorate on what it has accomplished in the preceding year. Electors, public and press are invited to hear reports from the Chairman, District & County Councillors, community groups and any organisation that the town or parish council has funded during the year. The Annual Parish Meeting is a separate meeting from the Parish Council Annual Meeting. The Annual Parish Meeting should be a relatively informal event for the community whereas the Annual Meeting of the Parish Council is a formal council meeting.

Weekly Policing Report

Here is our weekly summary of offences and incidents affecting your community, reported to police during the period 28th February to 6th March:

Hilton – The Neighbourhood Policing Team have been forwarded a request from a Hilton resident, received on Thursday 4th March, regarding lorries regularly breaching an overnight ban on heavy vehicles in the village. (Ref CC-04032021-0354)

And Finally – Warning of A ‘National Insurance Number’ Telephone Scam:

My thanks to an Ecops subscriber in Somersham with experience of this telephone scam, for drawing my attention to it.

Action Fraud, the UK Centre for cyber-crime and fraud reporting and investigation, issued an alert to the public after receiving over a thousand extra calls in one week about the scam.

Victims received an automated telephone call telling them that their ‘National Insurance Number had been compromised’ and in order to fix it and get a new number, they should press number 1 on their phone to be connected to a service agent.

However, the agent was in fact a criminal who pressured victims into giving their personal details, to be used in subsequent fraud.

Action Fraud advise that people remain vigilant and cautious of any calls suggesting that their National Insurance Number has been compromised. If you have any doubts, hang up the phone.

Full details of the Action Fraud alert are at:
