The Parish Council is the first tier of Local Government representing the local community, delivering services to meet local needs wherever possible, and improving quality of life and community well being.
The Parish Council currently has a Councillor vacancy for co-option.
Why should you become a Councillor?
You can read a guide on what Parish Councillors might be expected to do (although this is very broad and covers all Town and Parish Councils, so don’t be scared!) in The Good Councillors Guide.
There are a few criteria you must be able to comply with:
To qualify a person must be a British subject, over 18 years old and an elector; must reside within Hilton or within 4.8km of it, or occupy as owner or tenant any land or premises therein, or have their principal or only place of work there, and must not be disqualified from holding office as a Councillor.
If you would like to join us, please email the Clerk a brief CV and explanation about why you would like to be a Councillor by Saturday 23rd January and your application will be considered at the February meeting.—

The Spectrum editorial team have decided to temporarily suspend publication of Spectrum starting with the February 2021 edition. Sadly, because of the current Covid-19 situation, there is very little of note taking place in the villages to report. There will be an ongoing monthly review and publication will resume as soon as possible.
A copy of the article from Hilton Parish Council that would have been included in the February edition can be found here: Spectrum
As you are aware, we are now in a national lockdown and we must all stay at home unless we have a “reasonable excuse”. A copy of the government guidance can be found at gov.uk/coronavirus or downloaded here: National Lockdown Guidance.
The Hilton Coronavirus volunteer support, co-ordinated by the Parish Council, is available to organise assistance to anyone in the village who needs it during this time.
Assistance could include (but is not limited to):
If you need any help or would like to volunteer please contact Nicola Webster, Clerk to the Council, at or on 830605.
Thank you to everyone who helped with the recent flooding in the village. Many people helped to keep the exit grilles clear on the culverts and clear the rubbish from the ditches, which stopped the flooding from being any worse and helped the water drain away. Also thanks to those who helped in other ways like assisting stranded motorists, putting out the flood warning signs on the roads and checking on their neighbours.
Here is our weekly summary of offences and incidents affecting your community, reported to police during the period 20th to 27th December:
A1307 Galley Hill Roundabout – Three cars were left abandoned in flood water on the slip road at the Galley Hill Roundabout on Wednesday evening, 23rd December. Police and the Highways Department closed the road to stop further cars becoming stuck. One stranded driver was rescued and taken home. (Ref CC-23122020-0520)
Church End, Hilton – A Transit van needed towing away by recovery services after being swamped by flood water at Church End, Hilton, on Wednesday evening, 23rd December, with water up to its windows. (Ref CC-23122020-0729)
Hilton Road, Fenstanton – Police closed Hilton Road on Thursday evening, 24th December, after flood water over two feet deep made it too dangerous for traffic to be allowed to pass through. Warning signs and cones were also put out on Connington Road which also had some flooding. (Ref CC-24122020-0559)
Whilst the flooding has gone down across the village, the water level in many of the ditches remains high. The river levels are high but slowly falling in the St Ives and Houghton lock gauges and high and rising at the Tempsford (Roxton) and Bedford river gauges. A second peak of floodwater is moving down the Great Ouse from Bedford so river levels at St Ives and Houghton are expected to rise from the afternoon of Sunday 27th December. Further rainfall is expected tonight (Saturday 26th December) and on Sunday 27th & Monday 28th December.
Hopefully, this will not cause flooding of property in Hilton but we are subject to an amber flood warning which means “Flooding is possible – be prepared”. If you are concerned that your property is at risk from flooding and need any help to prepare please contact the Clerk at or 830605. Please check on any neighbours who may also be at risk.
Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded. Please take care whilst walking near to and avoid walking through flood water as there is always a risk of falling into ditches or open manhole covers and floodwater may be contaminated and harmful to health.
Please also consider those residents who have been affected by floodwater when driving and drive (if absolutely necessary) dead slow through any standing water as any bow wave created can cause additional water to flood into properties or garages.
